To facilitate the sustainable use of resources and best practices in municipal waste management

The Highlands Regional Waste Management Group (HRWMG) is an independent Statutory Authority. It is one of Victoria's 12 Regional Waste Management Groups (RWMGs) outside the Melbourne metropolitan area. The Highlands Region is situated west of Melbourne and encompasses an area of approximately 12,000 km2. It contains the provincial city of Ballarat and the sub-regional centres of Maryborough and Bacchus Marsh.

The Highlands Region is made up of six member councils:

  • Ballarat
  • Central Goldfields
  • Golden Plains
  • Hepburn
  • Moorabool
  • Pyrenees

The HRWMG has a Board of Management whose Directors are nominated by its Member Councils. A Senior Officer from each Council supports and advises their Director.
