The "Get it Sorted!" campaign was launched on 9 October 2009.

GET IT SORTED! - Introducing Sammy!

What is a Resource Recovery Centre? No, it's not a tip.

Getting the correct messages out into the community about resource recovery centres is Sammy, the ‘spokes-trailer's' mission as part of a new waste and recycling campaign.

The Highlands Regional Waste Management Group in partnership with its member Councils  (Ballarat, Golden Plains, Central Goldfields, Hepburn, Moorabool and Pyrenees) is pleased to announce the launch of the new campaign "Get It Sorted" designed to raise the profile of the resource recovery centres in the region.

The campaign, funded by the Victoria Government Sustainability Fund in partnership with the Association of Victorian Regional Waste Management Groups is running right across the State. Get It Sorted focuses on educating the public about the correct way to use resource recovery centres and how to sort your load to ensure you recycle as much as you can.

"Get It Sorted!" will help residents understand how to sort their loads to maximise the amount of materials they can recycle which will save time and possible money when they go to their local Resource Recovery Centre (transfer station).

Many people don't know what services their local Resource Recovery Centre offers and just assume that they work like an old fashioned tip, where we just threw everything out.

Resource Recovery Centres are facilities that can accept a wide variety of recyclable materials ranging from paper and cardboard, plastics, glass, aluminium and steel to green waste, scrap metal, used oil, concrete, bricks and timber.

By taking a little extra time to sort your load before you leave home, you can save yourself plenty of time at the transfer station by easily disposing of the different materials at each of the designated collection points.

Sorting you load can also save you money. Many items that are accepted at transfer stations can be accepted for free, so recycling makes both environmental and economic sense.

"Sort your garden waste into one pile, building rubble into another, recyclable stuff like metal and cardboard into another." says campaign spokes-trailer Sammy. "Unsorted loads make it harder to recycle. So get it sorted." Sammy added.
